Spring Into March 🍀Are you cleaning? :)

March 01, 2024

March has arrived, and soon, spring will be here as well. For those eagerly waiting for warmer days and lighter evenings, your wait will soon be over. Daylight Savings Time kicks in March 10th for much of the U.S. – don’t forget to set your clocks ahead by one hour! On March 19th, the sun will be positioned directly over the equator, marking the First Day of Spring and the start of warmth and light returning to the Northern Hemisphere.

Each March, many of us become fully immersed in college basketball. During March Madness, the top men’s and women’s college teams compete for the national championship through riveting single-elimination tournaments. The games' unpredictable nature fuels the excitement, with upsets almost guaranteed between underdog teams and their higher-seeded opponents.  To get in on the action, fans complete approximately 60 to 100 million tournament brackets, according to Sports Illustrated, as they try to predict the outcome of the tournaments. However, the odds of creating the perfect bracket are nearly impossible - about 1 in 9,223,372,036,854,775,808 (or 1 in 9.2 quintillion!). Still, there’s a chance it could happen someday! Who will you choose to win it all this year?

March is Women’s History Month, a time to recognize and celebrate women’s contributions to society. From Rosa Parks and Malala Yousafzai to the unsung heroes in our own lives, women have shaped our world in countless ways. There are many ways to celebrate: share impactful stories, support women-owned businesses, or simply express gratitude to the amazing women in our day-to-day!

Spring is an excellent time for a refresh around your home. Here are some tips to help you tackle cleaning many of those nooks and crannies that tend to get ignored throughout the year.

  • Cleaning your windows? Be sure to do so on an overcast day. The sunlight can cause your washing solution to dry too quickly, causing streaking or spots.
  • Does your kitchen sink stink? Drop a few lemon rind slivers into your garbage disposal and let it run for 15 to 30 seconds. Flush it out with cold water.
  • Another use for lemons – slice a lemon in half and rub the cut side over your cutting boards to rid them of food stains and smells.
  • Machine wash your shower curtains and liners to rid them of mildew and hang them to air dry.
  • Toss window curtains and decorative pillows into the dryer (with the lowest temperature setting) for a quick spruce-up.
  • Run a vacuum over soft furniture and under cushions. And while you’re at it, move the furniture to vacuum underneath and along the wall behind.

Now is also the perfect time to spring clean your household’s finances. Review and evaluate your emergency fund, confirm your retirement account beneficiaries are up to date, and examine recurring subscriptions (and cut what’s unnecessary). You should also look over your insurance policies to ensure they reflect your needs and consider comparing your current premiums with competing options – you may find a better deal! As always, if you need a second set of eyes to review your ideas for keeping your budget healthy and green, don’t hesitate to reach out.
